DPF, EGR and DEF Delete in Edmonton

Diesel Delete

We remove the exhaust systems on the Powerstroke, Cummins, and Duramax trucks. Our winters and driving conditions here in Edmonton are hard on these systems, like the start-stop traffic on the Henday or Whitemud during rush hour. This ends up clogging the DPF and EGR. Or our -40°C cold snaps in January, freezing the DEF or the sensors.

These are all failure points of the truck that can send it into limp mode, and we’ve had clients that take their truck to the dealership and they couldn’t fix the problem.

A delete means you wouldn’t have those problems again.

What gets deleted

  • DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter): the filter that traps soot and “regens” to burn it off. This clogs up over time, and the truck uses its own diesel to burn the soot off (you’re losing efficiency).
  • EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation): recirculates exhaust gas back into the engine, building up soot and heat.
  • DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid): the fluid injection system and the DEF itself (freezes at -11°C), which can freeze up and throw sensor codes.

Why delete instead of clean

A cleaned DPF or EGR gets clogged again, and you’d have to deal with the engine lights and limp mode until you get back to the shop. A delete removes the problem instead of the symptom. Long-term you’ll save more money than with repeat cleanings, sensor replacements, and downtime from your truck in limp mode.

FAQ

Can this be done in winter, or should I wait?

Yes, this can be done in the winter. It’s the busiest season, because most of the problems with DPF clogging (regen cycles need 600°C or 1,112°F to burn soot) and DEF freezing (-11°C or 12°F) come up then.

Does Alberta require emissions testing that a delete would fail?

Fortunately for us in Alberta, we don’t have any emissions checking mandated by the province.

Does this void my factory warranty?

Yes, it does affect your warranty, but check with a few dealerships around you to see if they would work on a deleted truck.

How long does the delete take?

We have a 24 hour turnaround, unless your ECM has to be unlocked physically. Then it takes time for the ECM to get shipped out and shipped back.

Do I need a tune after the delete?

Yes, you need a tune after a delete to turn off the DPF, EGR and DEF sensors, so you don’t get any engine codes coming up. We can tune your truck for economy/reliability, tow or power as well.
